FireEye, an internet security platform, needed a front panel overlay for their rack mounted security equipment that offered a high-end look, with a cost effective price. The new overlay would incorporate windows for LED backlighting and an embossed functional button. The original part was a metal overlay that stood out aesthetically, but the material made the part expensive and limited the design.

Solutions

After luphi learned about FireEye's project requirements, the luphi team worked to develop a solution that would provide cost effective advantages while preserving their aesthetic. One of luphi's unique capabilities is our ability to replicate metal finishes on different materials.

To achieve FireEye's desired look, luphi used a thick gloss polycarbonate material and printed a brushed aluminum finish to create the look of metal. Lithographic printing was utilized to decorate the part with the FireEye logo and additional decoration.

The final part exceeded FireEye's expectations. Working with a polycarbonate material rather than aluminum reduced the overall part cost, while adding other design benefits. The material allowed the overlay to also feature embossing and selective texture buttons, which wouldn’t have been possible with an aluminum construction. The unique design also incorporated windows for LED backlighting that could not be produced in Fire-Eye's previous metal overlay.

The end result was an overlay that not only achieved FireEye's desired metal aesthetic, but was more cost effective and implemented 3D design elements. Luphi's vast decorative capabilities allowed FireEye to source a more affordable overlay with the same high-end look. Luphi's custom finishes and printing can create innovative solutions for any graphic product while maintaining affordability and aesthetics.
